So, 60 years ago, started a story in Electronics Weekly’s edition of April 5th 1961.
The story continues:
The satellites are to be launched in America by the US National Aeronautics and Space Adminis- tration, and a ground station is to be provided in this country by the Post Office.
Equipment Orders are being placed in the next few months for equipment required for the station.
Research on the design of special transmitters, receivers, and large steerable aerials are well advanced.
Also mentioned in the White Paper, on Post Office Prospects for the coming year, is that tests are to start by autumn on the first electronic telephone exchange at Highgate Wood.
