Batlow-Tumut Rail Trail Association wants this rail corridor to be turned into a rail trail in order to increase tourism and provide safe off road alternatives for physical activity.
After seeing the success of the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail, it made the Batlow-Tumut Association wish even harder to see their rail trail come to fruition.
The proposed Batlow to Tumut Rail Trail is part of a larger plan for the Riverina Highlands Trail, connecting local towns to provide a scenic trail for both locals and visitors to the region. It is hoped that one day, the Batlow to Tumut Rail Trail would connect to the Tumbarumba to Rosewood creating a fully connected network of rail trails.
Now the Batlow-Tumut Rail Trail Association is calling for funding in order to create a detailed development plan for the Batlow-Tumut Rail Trail.
The group is hoping these funds will also assist in the economic bushfire recovery and attract more tourism by allowing visitors and locals to experience the natural wonders of the area.
