Most of the roads, parks and paths you need to travel on in NSW are controlled by local government. Until recently our team lacked the resources to respond to the many plans and proposals put forward at this level, reducing the chance to advise on improvements for bike riders.
Providing this advice can help Councils save money, as early modifications to plans are far less expensive than re-working projects later. It can also help those in Council who are struggling to convince their colleagues to support bike riding. Responding to submissions helps explain that bike riders will be able to ride if local improvements are made, something that may not be clear in communities where poor infrastructure has suppressed demand.

In some cases, Bicycle NSW submissions are developed with, or as a compliment to, those of Local Bicycle User Groups. However, many parts of NSW don’t have a BUG or other supportive voice for bike riders
“If you become aware of an opportunity to respond to a local cycling strategy or bike plan, feel free to drop us a line and your thoughts,” said Bicycle NSW General Manager of Public Affairs, Bastien Wallace.
“We always encourage people to share their support for bike plans with Councils, lest the voices against bike riding outnumber supporters,” said Bastien.
